Upcoming book events - NYC | Seattle / GC Now is Back!
Writing this from airport here in Melbourne with lots of updates about upcoming events!
Dear Friends and Supporters,
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve written - since my time in Melbourne, I’ve been in Perth visiting family and friends, and showing Miki and Wendy the wonders of Western Australia. We are just now in transit in Melbourne for the long flight back to New York. I was grateful to have a bit of a send off party in Perth with my parents and one of my best mates, Akram, coming to bid us farewell.
Now, onto the updates - it’s been a busy few weeks!
The Book is almost here!
The countdown is on until the book hits the shelves. I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive support the book has received so far including several media interviews and book talks while I’ve been in Australia.
As a reminder, those who preorder my book by April 9th and email me at michael@michaelsheldrick.com will receive a signed bookplate and exclusive bonus chapter! Preorder here. I would be grateful if you might also post about the book too. You can find some social media language here.

Houngbo, and more – will gather in NYC to discuss transformative ideas for urgent action to achieve a world where everyone’s basic needs are fulfilled. What a week in Melbourne!
And what a homecoming it was earlier this month. Global Citizen NOW took place in Melbourne from March 5-6, and brought together a diverse array of voices, from world leaders to grassroots activists, to address pressing global issues. Over two days, we convened important conversations on climate change and global poverty, highlighting the importance of driving collective action. The event emphasized inclusivity and respect for the traditional owners of the land, setting a precedent for future gatherings.
Several impactful moments marked the summit, including:
Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão's call for Australia to address global poverty and climate change.
The launch of the 'Safer World for All' Campaign.
Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance’s pledge to introduce HPV vaccines in Timor-Leste.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development celebrated its first official mission to the Pacific as we called on Australia to bolster food security in the region.
The official launch of the 'Naiuli Declaration' for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
And of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that the summit was closed down with a performance by Crowded House. You can read more about what went down here. I will be posting more about the speeches given in coming weeks.
Our continuing campaign on child marriage
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, child marriage destroys the lives of millions of girls globally. California (among other states) lacks comprehensive legislation, leaving 8,000 underage children at risk annually. Forced marriage jeopardizes health, safety, education, and futures, but change is possible.
California can lead by establishing a legal marriage age of 18, safeguarding minors, advancing gender equality, and fostering a safer future. Sign the petition urging California to ban child marriage and ensure protection for all children - take action now by adding your name (only available for CA residents).
